How I Generated $90 per Month With a Blog In Just 5 Months

I have generated more than $90 per month (10,000 visits) with a new blog in 5 months!

This is probably one of the SEO articles that I am going to enjoy the most (and I hope you will too) since it is one of those achievements that changed the way I see the digital world.

Thanks to the fact that I was able to get more than 10,000 organic visits with a 5-month-old blog, I was able to replicate it using the same technique but on other websites. This obviously coupled with a good monetization strategy will result in revenue for me. I imagine you also want the same!

Let's start with the post!

Choose Best Niche Blog

Do proper research for best niche blog that you going to start. Don't go for high compete niche (example programming tutorial). High compete niche will take you lot of time and effort to get organic vistors.

I want to start by telling the particular story of this niche because it is somewhat particular.

Investigating new SEO niches to start monetizing, I came across a nice opportunity in the livestock sector niche.

Looking a little deeper I found that one part of this HUGE niche with thousands of searches per month had a lot of weaknesses. One of them had a somewhat long EMD domain available but with many searches per month which were not being used by anyone.

Why do I say that no one was taking advantage of them?

Because when you did a search on Google with those keywords, many of the results that were at the top of those keywords were from Slideshare, Prezi and Blogspot. That's where my Prezi strategy for SEO niches was born.

This is always a clear sign that the SERP's have opportunities.

These sites have a very high DA (Domain Authority) and in that case it is impossible to compete with them. However, the content inside is usually poor, especially when they are presentations designed by students for school, high school or university work.

Key Note: Don't choose high compete blog niche, it will will take you lot of time and effort to get organic vistors. Do proper research and choose low compete and high search volume niche.

A problem

Despite having found this massive opportunity to monetize and grow a niche into an authority site, I didn't want to lose focus of my day job.

I was working as a Web developer in company and I already had other projects started or about to start.

This didn't have to turn into shiny object syndrome. Since my beginnings in the online world I have always been a very productive person, therefore I know all these syndromes that entrepreneurs suffer from, I have experienced them and I do everything possible not to repeat them.

So my decision in April 2018 was: to postpone the start of this niche until when I have time and reserve the domain so that no one steals this opportunity from me.

This decision (considering what was going to happen next) was a great decision.

Yet another "problem"

Almost six months later, in October 2018, I found myself with enough time to advance in this niche but I found a big surprise.

Someone else had already noticed this opportunity and had bought the same domain as me but instead of his domain being .com (because it was already reserved by me) he chose to make his niche by targeting the country with the highest search volume (in this case Argentina) so its domain was .com.ar

And worst of all, is that its contents were very well crafted. This person had created the content that I had in mind to create. From head to toe.

This demoralized me a bit, especially knowing that if I started now I would have to compete with someone who was already creating amazing content and also receiving thousands of visits and links to their site.

Clearly it is someone who knows about SEO.

The resurgence of my hope

After spending the entire month of October and November confused with this matter, I decided to investigate further and my hope was renewed.

Why?

For two very important things.

In the first place, despite the fact that a great competitor had left me, I had a great opportunity being able to capture traffic from other countries that he was not targeting due to geolocation.

And secondly because I realized that this webmaster did not generate new content, he made 15 very complete articles and was satisfied with the traffic he was receiving when in reality I had discovered more than 50 opportunities to position myself first in Google and get traffic from each one of those blog posts.

My competitor had relaxed!

It was my moment.

December 2018

Thinking positively and with these two favorable points that I mentioned in the previous section, I set out to start this blog using Wordpress.

I have purchased .com domain at $9.98 from namecheap (Popular website, You can buy domain at low price).

And hosting in WordPress Starter Dreamhost which cost only $1.99/month.

The things I focused on at first were:

  • Simple design without much twist.
  • Focus on content creation: Each article no less than 800 words and adding custom images.
  • Few plugins and maximum optimization of its performance, loading speed, etc.

And so my adventure began.

A madness that would make me write 30 articles in that month of December, practically one article per day from a niche about which I had the greatest ignorance.

To write all this content I focused on getting the best information from the positions that ranked between the first and fifth place of all those keywords. I also concentrated my search on YouTube where most of the information could be obtained.

It took me longer than expected (because of my ignorance) but it was epic. Works as web developer and with other parallel projects, parties, Christmas...

Still, I was able to add almost 25,000 words of content to my new SEO niche.

What would you change this month?

Absolutely nothing. Never in my life have I focused so much on anything in such an efficient and consistent manner. And this I believe, is one of the keys by which that niche is what it is today.

As we can see, the traffic was practically non-existent this month (upper right of the image says the date).

Obviously I wasn't expecting to see any traffic at all, I was just creating the content!

However, I had some positive signs that made me think that I was on the right track and this encouraged me to press the accelerator. For example, entering the Search Console I began to see that it was already appearing in some positions.

Note : Every time I finished an article I published it and immediately went to Search Console to index it. This is a very important practice as we give Google signals of our new content and save time.

Key Note: Don't Focus on website designs or traffic. Only focus on writing unique and quality content.

January 2019

January, month of heat in this region of the world and a month that all of us who live in this area take it to vacation and rest. It was not my case.

Despite a few days off, I concentrated on optimizing the articles created by adding new custom images and, above all, going deeper with keyword research.

What do I mean by this?

Keyword research I did in early December was pretty basic, I just scratched the surface. This month I started digging deeper and looking at all the optimizations that could be done. I didn't want to do it from the beginning because I wanted to focus on creation.

To organize myself, I made a board in Notion with the necessary optimizations article by article. I spent 2 whole days doing it and the following days optimizing.

As for new content, I only made 3 articles from scratch. The rest were optimizations.

I also modified the design of the page to make it easier. That the home is all the blog articles and that the articles with the highest search volumes according to Ahrefs are in the menu, all this with the idea that they are the most visited.

As we see in the Analytics graph, the traffic was still extremely low, and I repeat, I did not expect it to exist.

Key Note: Do a deeper keyword research and optimize your content based on keyword because writing content without keyword targeting is one of the common mistake most blogger do.

What would have changed in this month?

Any.

This month was a huge sacrifice as it was a summer month. Even though I have air conditioning, it's always difficult for me to concentrate and I suffer a lot from the heat.

I thought my performance was going to be very poor and yet I was able to focus a lot and make great strides towards my personal goals with this SEO niche.

Perhaps by now you are wondering: have you created links to this niche?

No, but i have created all popular social media account with my website links.

I made them only with the objective of having some link, both direct to the home page because I wanted to give relevance to the keyword that I focused on on the home page.

I wanted to test if it was possible to create an SEO niche without working on link building and above all, because it is the aspect of SEO that I like the least. I was hoping that theory was true.

Note: I know there are already articles on that topic, but I need to do my own research and apply my own knowledge. The same thing always happens in SEO, everyone has their theories and you don't know who to trust. That is why things have to be tested by oneself and even more so if you intend to create a niche model for them to be successful.

February 2019

My attention was diverted elsewhere, and it was my worst month of progress with this niche. I didn't have enough time to move forward, create content or optimize. Absolutely nothing.

I have as a rule that after 3 months of creating a new niche I start with the Google Adsense approval process so I start to monetize the few visits I have.

There are two things to keep in mind about this:

  • Asking for approval does not mean that I will fill my page with ads. What is needed most in the beginning is traffic, therefore the user experience matters a lot. If the user experience is a website with 20 ads per page, no one will return to my site.
  • Google Adsense approval is now more demanding and I wanted to test how demanding it is.

They rejected my approval three times before it was finally accepted. For it to be approved, I based it on the tips that I put in this other blog article that I did a while ago.

But essentially what I did was make several changes to the homepage, improve the privacy policy and start sharing content on Facebook associated with the niche.

With this I got the approval and I was ready to monetize.

Now all I needed was the traffic.

BOOM!

No, lie.

This has not been the month that the boom occurs, but we do already see interesting traffic for only the third month. And this time it's not just my visits.

I was very surprised by the almost 100% increase in average session length which I'm sure was a huge positive sign for my niche.

In addition to seeing my positions in Search Console, I also track my positions with Ahrefs Rank Tracker, a tool that I open every morning with a nice cup of coffee.

The visibility shows me the percentage of clicks that were made of the keywords that I am tracking (31) with respect to the rest of the searches in the SERP's.

Average position, as its term says, shows me where those keywords rank on average. In this case it indicates 9.86.

Ahrefs traffic doesn't matter because I'm already measuring it efficiently in Google Analytics.

But the most striking of all are the positions of these keywords.

They are all in good standing considering how recent the niche is.

Note: Clarify that the keywords that I track are the main keywords of each of the articles + the home keyword. That is to say that until now I have 30 articles completed and published.

March 2019

In March I changed the tonic that I had maintained in the previous month and I put my batteries back.

I started to create new content attacking other important keywords that were getting traffic and also to get content through the Jasper.

Jasper is the artificial intelligence which makes it fast & easy to create content for your blog, social media, website, and more!

So far I had only spent $12 dollars buying the domain and hosting and these $29 dollars of Jasper ai content. That was my total spending after four months with this niche.

In total I added 8 new articles, quite complete and with pending optimizations. I was left with the thorn of not being able to optimize old articles.

Website Migration

I also focused a bit more on improving page load speed since I wasn't satisfied. I moved my website from Dreamhost (great service, great attention but I needed the change) to Cloudways, a hosting that has given me impressive results in terms of loading speed. Website loading speed is one of the main key word google seo so i have found Cloudways really doing better for wordpress hosting so i have moved to Cloudways which cost me $12/month.

In fact I am migrating all my websites to there.

Now yes.

Impressive results to be the fourth month of life of this niche. Results that I never thought I would achieve so quickly.

If we compare this data from Ahrefs with the previous month we see how much the positions of my main keywords have improved.

Before, most of them were on the second page of Google's SERPs.

Now they are already located on the first page, 28 keywords out of 38 to be exact.

As for the income, this month I have generated $5.2 dollars.

Income is also not important right now, but it is good to see its evolution.

April 2019

April was the month of consolidation and betting big on this niche.

I bought 8 more pieces of content (which I honestly didn't have the time to optimize) and made a couple of interesting moves on the site. One of them (although it sounds strange) was to buy visits to this site. Yes, I bought 1,000 visits. And the results were highly satisfactory.

Buying views

Sometimes I use the strategy of buying visits when I see that a niche is rising. The main objective is not to increase the number of Analytics or generate impressions to earn money with AdSense.

The goal is to give positive signals to Google that my niche is highly visited.

Buying visits resulted in:

  • Instant ranking improvement for some of my most important keywords.
  • Increased Domain Authority and Page Authority (grab it with tweezers).
  • Post-visit organic growth.

I have spent, $50 for reddit ads and $50 for google ads(only used search ads), $2 per day and continuously ran ads for 25 days in both reddit and google.

I choose reddit and google because in which you can easily target your niche audience.

Note: When I say that I generated 10,000 organic visits in 5 months, I am taking these purchased visits off the radar. What's more, the number of organic visits is even higher than 10,000.

70% more organic traffic compared to the previous month and not counting purchased visits . These visits were purchased on April 20 and were spread over an interval of 15 days.

The increase in the average duration of the session to 1 minute and a half (not shown in the photo) and the increase in the number of sessions per user are two values ​​that made me very happy since they were my big problem with this niche.

May 2019

I reached 17,000 monthly visits in May with 21,680 sessions, 31,000 page views and an average session length of more than 2 minutes.

So far so good, but I need to keep lowering that bounce rate. I must also clarify that, until now, I have not had time to dedicate myself to downloading it. In June the idea is to carry out small actions to start this process.

As for the content created for this blog this month… honestly, I was able to create very little. So I had Jasper wrote 4 contents.

June 2019

I hit 20,000 monthly organic visits to my blog! πŸŽ‰

I thought that this month I was going to have much more time to dedicate myself to the niche, and it was the opposite. A very hectic month.

It gave me great joy to know that I was able to reach 20,000 unique visits in the month of June.

With the intention of lowering the bounce rate, I proposed a series of changes so that users start clicking on other interesting content in my niche:

  • Internal linking review: I just went content by content seeing that it could be optimized. Changes that I knew could be made at the time I made and some take a bit more thought so I just wrote them down on a Notion board.
  • Greater monetization with a sidebar: my blog did not have a sidebar that makes it possible to see other content or click on various ads. Now it has been added as another element that can help improve my web analytics and my income with Adsense.
  • I am also considering moving to Ezoic.

β€œWhat is Ezoic?” you may be wondering.

Well, to summarize it, Ezoic is similar to Adsense but looks for more optimization and ad testing in order to get the highest possible return.

To be able to enter Ezoic, first of all you have to have a website that generates at least 10,000 visits per month.

Sometimes using Ezoic can be a great financial benefit as it can double, triple and even 10x double your ad earnings.

I will be testing it and if it is a good option for this niche I will start using it and I will show you the reports that they give me.

July 2019

Content… little or nothing. The growth of the niche made me relax a lot in the creation of the content. I am also putting together a good content structure and with my mind set on expanding the niche to other branches directly related to livestock.

Last month I said that I was considering moving to Ezoic as I had reached the goal of 10,000 monthly visits.

Well I did.

So far the start hasn't been all that amazing in terms of revenue, but according to the account executive helping me with the process I need to give it even more time.

I am currently passing 80% of the traffic through Ezoic ads and the remaining 20% ​​through Adsense.

So the future is promising.

August 2019

A great month in terms of income and in terms of the planning that I was able to execute on the content.

Yes, niches are meant to earn money passively, but I always like to start 100% focused on making it work and doing it in the best possible way. I try not to leave anything to chance and I fight for position 1.

For that I need to develop top content, and that is a mission that I have been fulfilling with this niche.

Now I am going to focus on sending 100% through Ezoic since I see that it works perfectly.

I want to review all the plugins installed so far in my niche and the theme I use for most of my niches.

And voila, those are the plugins I currently have in this niche. Nothing special.

The 6 keys that achieved the success of this niche

To get visits with a blog like this, I was able to identify 7 characteristics that in my opinion were THE KEYS to getting traffic in such a short time.

  • Staying focused: Doing what I managed to do in December 2018 is not an easy task. Writing so many articles in so few days is always something that will have good advantages, especially since creating content is the key to all of this. If there is no quality content, you cannot make a website.
  • Have a defined strategy: With the first keyword research I was able to identify what all my content would be and from there I went on to plan it. Sometimes when you want to create your own website, it usually happens that we skip all these stages, we start creating and then we get stuck. Why? Because there was a lack of planning to ensure and keep everything in order.
  • Act and not hesitate: Thanks to the fact that I bought the domain as soon as I saw it, I was able to capitalize on my opportunity, otherwise this chance would have been stolen from me.
  • Pay attention to the most important metrics and optimize quickly: To have visitors with a blog, you need to know what the metrics are and understand what can be done to improve them. The fact of having doubled the duration of the session I have no doubt that it was a great sign for Google. I also took care to perfectly adapt the content for all screens and adjust the language to be as effective as possible.
  • Optimize existing content with agility: Not everything is creating new content, to have visits with a blog we must also optimize the content that already exists. I think that the fact of having improved the quality of all the contents from the first to the last was another key factor for success.
  • A model of creating niches based on my experience: My own experience with niches and the fact that I already have a step-by-step strategy of what I have to do and when I have to do it, also played an important role. The SEO strategy that I apply seeks long-term authority and trust from Google as soon as possible. In new articles I will talk more about this.
